Abstract: The lines in English freehand figure painting play a crucial role in traditional Chinese painting, with distinct characteristics and rich expressive power. They can convey rich meanings and emotions in concise lines. Line is the language used in freehand character painting to depict objects, and it is also the carrier for artists to carry out artistic creation. Painters can vividly depict objects by changing the thickness, intensity, and urgency of the lines. From the lines in freehand character paintings, we can see the influence of traditional Chinese culture. Understanding the beauty of lines in Chinese painting can better understand the charm of traditional Chinese culture and lay a solid foundation for the artist's personal creation. This article is divided into four parts. The first part elaborates on the beauty of Chinese painting's lines from three aspects: line modeling, homology between calligraphy and painting, and independent aesthetic value of lines. The second part analyzes the use of lines in the processing of clothing patterns, facial features, and overall image points, lines, and surfaces using the The Painting of Refugees as an example. The third part analyzes the significance of the lines in the The Painting of Refugees, and the fourth part is my personal understanding and application of the lines in my creations.
