摘要: From the perspective of traditional culture, this paper examines the cultivation paths for forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation among college students. It analyzes the connotation and significance of this sense, and elaborates on the role of traditional culture in the cultivation process. The investigation reveals that current efforts face challenges such as insufficient awareness and monotonous educational approaches. To address these issues, the study proposes strategies including optimizing the curriculum system, innovating teaching models, enriching practical activities, and establishing collaborative education mechanisms. These measures aim to provide both theoretical support and practical guidance for cultivating a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation among college students.

In the context of globalization, forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation is of vital importance for safeguarding national unity and promoting ethnic unity. As key institutions for talent cultivation, colleges and universities shoulder the crucial mission of fostering this awareness among students. Traditional culture, as the spiritual lifeline of the Chinese nation, embodies profound ideas of ethnic unity and patriotism, offering valuable resources for cultivation. This study seeks to explore how traditional culture can be integrated into the process of cultivating a sense of community for the Chinese nation among college students, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of cultivation and helping students develop a firm and enduring sense of community for the Chinese nation.

I. The Connotation and Importance of the Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation

The sense of community for the Chinese nation refers to the identification and sense of belonging among members of the Chinese nation toward their shared history, culture, destiny, and interests. It embodies the pattern of the Chinese nation with unity in diversity, highlighting the close ties and common interests forged among all ethnic groups throughout the course of historical development. This sense serves as a spiritual bond for safeguarding national unity and ethnic unity, and constitutes an essential ideological foundation for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Cultivating the sense of community for the Chinese nation among college students carries significant practical importance. First, it helps strengthen students’ national identity and ethnic pride, while fostering a spirit of patriotism. Second, it promotes mutual understanding and respect among students of different ethnic backgrounds, thereby creating a harmonious campus atmosphere. Finally, it lays a solid ideological foundation for students’ future participation in national development and social governance, contributing to the cultivation of a new generation prepared to shoulder the mission of national rejuvenation.

II. The Value of Traditional Culture in Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation

Traditional culture provides abundant ideological resources for forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation. The Confucian concept of Great Unity, the principle of Harmony without Uniformity, the Daoist idea of harmony between humanity and nature, as well as the literature, arts, and folk traditions jointly created by various ethnic groups, all embody the pursuit of values such as ethnic unity and national unification. These resources help college students understand the historical origins and cultural foundations of the Chinese nation with unity in diversity.

Traditional culture plays a unique role in cultivating the sense of community for the Chinese nation. It can enhance cultural identity by demonstrating the profundity and inclusiveness of Chinese culture, thereby inspiring students’ national pride and cultural confidence. Moreover, stories of ethnic unity and exemplary models of patriotism within traditional culture provide vivid educational materials that enhance the appeal and persuasiveness of cultivation efforts. In addition, the very process of inheriting and innovating traditional culture itself contributes to forging the sense of community for the Chinese nation, helping cultivate students’ cultural self-consciousness and sense of mission.

III. Current Situation and Problems in Cultivating the Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation among College Students

Currently, colleges and universities have achieved certain results in cultivating the sense of community for the Chinese nation among students. Many institutions have introduced relevant courses and organized diverse thematic activities, and overall, students’ sense of community for the Chinese nation shows a positive trend. However, investigations reveal several persistent problems: some students lack a deep understanding of the sense of community for the Chinese nation, displaying cognitive ambiguity and emotional indifference; educational methods remain relatively monotonous, lacking appeal and engagement; practical components are weak, making it difficult to transform theoretical understanding into concrete actions; and insufficient communication and interaction among students of different ethnic groups hinder their firsthand experience of this community sense.

The existence of these problems is influenced by both social and family factors, and is also related to the lack of targetedness and effectiveness in cultivation work within universities. The impact of multiculturalism under globalization, the uneven quality of online information, and some students’ limited knowledge of traditional culture all pose challenges to cultivation efforts. Therefore, it is urgent to explore more effective cultivation paths to improve the scientific rigor and practical effectiveness of this work.

IV. Cultivation Paths for College Students’ Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation from the Perspective of Traditional Culture

In terms of curriculum system development, elements of traditional culture should be organically integrated into Ideological and Political Education courses as well as relevant specialized courses. Specialized courses such as “Fine Traditional Chinese Culture and Ethnic Unity” can be offered to deeply explore the ideas of ethnic unity and patriotic spirit embedded in traditional culture. At the same time, interdisciplinary course development should be encouraged, combining traditional culture with history, literature, art, and other disciplines to enhance the appeal and effectiveness of the curriculum.

With regard to the innovation of educational models, modern information technology should be fully utilized to create blended teaching approaches that combine online and offline learning. Digital resources such as MicroLectures and MOOCs can be developed, and virtual reality technology can be employed to recreate historical scenes, thereby enriching students’ learning experience. In addition, inquiry-based and discussion-based teaching should be promoted to guide students in active thinking and communication, thus deepening their understanding of the sense of community for the Chinese nation.

In enriching practical activities, diverse cultural experiences should be organized. These may include traditional culture festivals, ethnic customs exhibitions, and Intangible Cultural Heritage activities, enabling college students to personally experience the charm of Chinese culture. Students should also be encouraged to participate in social practices, such as ethnic culture research and volunteer services for ethnic unity, thereby transforming theoretical knowledge into practical action. Furthermore, cross-regional and cross-ethnic exchange activities can be arranged to foster mutual understanding and friendship among students from different ethnic groups.

In building a collaborative education mechanism, a tripartite system involving schools, families, and society should be established. Schools can invite experts in traditional culture and exemplary figures of ethnic unity and progress to deliver lectures, thereby enhancing the authority and persuasiveness of education. Communication with families should be strengthened to guide parents to value traditional culture education and ethnic unity education. Meanwhile, social resources such as museums and cultural heritage sites should be fully utilized for field teaching and study tours, forming a comprehensive synergy in education.

V. Conclusion

This study examines the cultivation paths for forging a sense of community for the Chinese nation among college students from the perspective of traditional culture. The findings indicate that traditional culture provides abundant ideological resources and unique educational value for cultivation efforts. In response to the problems identified in current practices, colleges and universities should optimize the curriculum system, innovate educational models, enrich practical activities, and construct collaborative education mechanisms to organically integrate traditional culture into the cultivation process. Such measures not only enhance the effectiveness of cultivation but also promote the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional culture. Future research may further explore methods for quantitatively assessing cultivation outcomes and investigate how the cultivation of the sense of community for the Chinese nation can be integrated with other aspects of student development, such as innovation and entrepreneurship education, thereby offering more ideas and approaches for nurturing a new generation prepared to shoulder the mission of national rejuvenation.
