Breaking Free from Short-Video Addiction: Attention Management and Psychological Regulation among University Students

Chinese Abstract: 文章以2025级国贸大一学生小浩短视频成瘾案例为研究对象，旨在探索高校大学生短视频成瘾矫治与注意力调节路径。文章剖析成瘾源于算法即时满足、注意力损耗、自我管理缺失、现实生活匮乏四大成因，采用梯度行为戒断、认知重塑、专注力训练、兴趣替代及家校师朋协同的综合干预方案开展帮扶。经分阶段干预，该生短视频依赖显著缓解，作息、学业、社交及专注能力恢复向好。研究表明短视频成瘾非单纯意志力问题，软替代、系统化注意力训练与多元协同干预可长效改善成瘾问题，为高校学生管理提供实践参考。
Abstract: Taking Xiao Hao, a freshman majoring in International Economics and Trade enrolled in 2025 who suffered from short-video addiction as the research subject, this paper aims to explore approaches to correcting college students’ short-video addiction and regulating their attention. It analyses four major causes of addiction, namely instant gratification triggered by algorithms, impaired attention, deficient self-management and lack of fulfilling real-life alternatives. A comprehensive intervention programme consisting of gradual behavioural withdrawal, cognitive restructuring, attention training, hobby replacement and multi-party collaboration among counsellors, teachers, roommates and families is adopted to provide targeted support. After phased intervention, the student’s reliance on short videos is greatly alleviated, accompanied by remarkable improvements in daily routine, academic performance, interpersonal communication and concentration capacity. The study concludes that short-video addiction is not merely a problem of weak willpower. Soft alternative therapies, systematic attention training and multi-stakeholder collaborative interventions can achieve long-term alleviation of addiction, offering practical references for student administration in higher education institutions.
