Abstract: The term "Four Chancellors" refers to the four figures of Dong Zhuo, Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang, and Sima Yi. All of them are the primary characters depicted in the novel and once held the position of chancellor. Although they wielded the greatest authority befitting ministers, they challenged the established sovereign-minister hierarchy. Within the novel's structure, these characters are interconnected through a web of antagonism, thereby uniting the narrative into a cohesive whole and driving forward both the narrative itself and the passage of time, infusing the novel with formidable power; within this cyclical narrative of karmic retribution, the spirit of the I Ching—deeply embedded beneath the text—is manifested.
